#9 Movie: The Thing
The day after I made the Top 11 Sci-Fi Movies Ever, I saw this movie. I ended up loving The Thing, and regretting the fact that I didn’t get to put it on there. Although this film was released in 1982, the special effects make even today’s CG special effects seem like claymation. Just click the link at the bottom of this entry for a fantastic display of special effects. Anyway, The Thing tells the story of 12 men who’s research facility in Antarctica is infiltrated by a prehistoric alien who transforms into it’s victims after gruesomely devouring them. The film is extremely suspenseful, and I don’t want to ruin any of the shocking moments that occur along the way.
The Thing is an R-rated film, and the following video may be disturbing for some viewers. Watch at your own risk.
#9 Game: Timesplitters 2
“What?! You put Timesplitters 2 higher than Chrono Trigger?! HOW DARE YOU CRUNCHY FROG! NOW I WILL POST ANGRY COMMENTS ON THIS POST!!!!” Yeah, this will certainly be a controversial entry on this list. But remember how I said that I will revise the list on January 1st? And besides, Timesplitters 2 deserves to be this high on the list. It’s got over a hundred characters, tons of unique weapons (who could forget the Tommy Gun x2, or the Brick?), the insanely fun levels, the epic story mode, and brilliant graphics. This game even had a Map Maker! I’m 99% sure that this was the first FPS to let you make your very own levels from scratch without modding the game. You could make tributes to Goldeneye, Star Wars, Punch-Out, or anything else you could imagine!
